Elf Town Galway 2026: Dates, Tickets & Santa Guide

Christmas is about to get very magical in Galway.

Elf Town Galway returns to Galway Racecourse from 20 November to 23 December 2026, bringing families on an immersive Christmas journey filled with elves, festive rooms, activities, surprises and, of course, a private visit with Santa.

Already one of the West of Ireland's best-known Christmas experiences, Elf Town has some big changes planned for 2026.

For the first time, families can choose between two different Elf Town experiences — the full adventure for those who want to explore everything, or a shorter Express experience for families who prefer something more relaxed.

Whether you're planning your annual Santa visit, a Christmas weekend in Galway or simply looking for something special to do with the kids, here's everything you need to know about Elf Town Galway 2026.

When is Elf Town Galway 2026?

Elf Town Galway runs from:

Friday 20 November – Wednesday 23 December 2026

The experience takes place on selected dates throughout the Christmas season.

Popular weekend slots and dates close to Christmas can sell out quickly, so booking well in advance is strongly recommended.

Where is Elf Town Galway?

Elf Town takes place at Galway Racecourse, Ballybrit, Galway, H91 V654.

Galway Racecourse is located just outside Galway City and is easily reached by car. The large racecourse setting gives Elf Town plenty of room to create its different Christmas worlds and attractions.

If you're travelling from further away, you could easily combine Elf Town with an overnight stay and a visit to the Galway Christmas Market in Eyre Square.

What's New at Elf Town Galway for 2026?

This is where things get particularly interesting.

Elf Town has been reimagined for Christmas 2026, and families now have a choice between two experiences.

The Full Elf Town Experience

This is the complete Elf Town adventure — designed for families who want to explore the full Christmas world, take part in the activities and spend more time experiencing the different rooms, characters and attractions. The full experience takes approximately two hours.

The Express Elf Town Experience

The new Express experience is a shorter option featuring some of Elf Town's biggest highlights, including the Welcome Emporium, a private visit with Santa, the Frozen Sweet Shop and the Elf Town Toy Shop.

This could be a particularly useful option for families with younger children or anyone who feels a two-hour immersive experience might be a little too much. The new format also introduces a more relaxed free-flow journey, allowing families more freedom to explore at their own pace.

What Happens at Elf Town Galway?

The experience begins from the moment you arrive.

Elf Town stretches across several festive areas at Galway Racecourse, with families making their way through a Christmas world filled with elves and surprises. Depending on the experience you choose, you can expect a mixture of interactive activities, Christmas characters and beautifully decorated rooms.

Meet the Elves

It wouldn't be Elf Town without plenty of elves.

Throughout the experience you'll meet different characters who help guide families through the adventure. Some are extremely helpful. Others seem considerably better at causing Christmas chaos. Children aren't simply walking past displays — the elves interact with visitors and help bring the story to life. That's one of the biggest differences between Elf Town and a straightforward Santa grotto.

Visit Mrs Claus

Mrs Claus has an important role to play at Elf Town too.

Families traditionally get the chance to visit her during their Christmas journey and take part in festive activities. In previous years children have helped decorate Christmas cookies before continuing their adventure — a nice way of breaking up the journey before reaching Santa himself.

Santa's Workshop & Mission Control

Children can discover where the elves prepare for Christmas and see the chaos involved in getting presents ready before Santa's biggest night of the year.

And delivering presents around the world in one night takes some serious planning — that's where Mission Control comes in. Here the elves help Santa plan his Christmas Eve journey and make sure everything is ready for the big night. For children fascinated by how Santa manages to visit millions of homes around the world, it's another fun part of the story.

A Private Family Visit With Santa

Everything eventually leads to the most important part of the experience: meeting Santa.

Rather than families being rushed through together, Elf Town provides a private Santa visit for your own family. Parents can provide information about their children before visiting, allowing Santa to know a few special details when they arrive.

For younger children, hearing Santa mention something personal can make the whole experience feel considerably more real. And watching their face when Santa suddenly knows something about them is usually the moment parents remember most.

Santa's Golden Ticket

Elf Town adds another little bit of magic before families even arrive.

Children receive an official invitation from Santa, including their own special Golden Ticket and an Elf Town map — sent to children before their visit, giving the excitement plenty of time to build.

It's a clever touch because Elf Town doesn't simply begin when you reach Galway Racecourse. For the kids, the adventure starts when Santa's post arrives at home.

The Elf Town Toy Shop

After meeting Santa, children continue towards the Elf Town Toy Shop, where they receive a special Elf Town coin to exchange for a present.

Giving children the chance to choose or collect their gift adds another fun element rather than simply handing them something as they leave Santa's room.

Christmas Activities

The full experience is packed with interactive entertainment. Activities can vary, but Elf Town has traditionally included snowball games, Christmas cookie decorating, dancing with elves, face painting, Christmas workshops, Santa's mail, elf activities and festive games throughout.

The goal is to keep children involved throughout the experience rather than simply walking them from room to room.

Is Elf Town Good for Younger Children?

Yes — and the new 2026 options make choosing the right experience even easier.

Families with children who love immersive attractions and can comfortably enjoy a longer experience may prefer the Full Elf Town Experience. For toddlers, younger children or children who may become tired or overwhelmed during a two-hour attraction, the Express Experience could be the better option. Being able to choose is a big improvement for families.

Sensory-Friendly Visits

Elf Town has also offered specially arranged sessions for children with autism or additional sensory needs, designed to create a more comfortable environment for children who may find a busy Christmas attraction overwhelming.

Availability can be limited, so families interested in a sensory-friendly visit should check the booking options and contact Elf Town directly if they need more information.

How Much Does Elf Town Galway Cost?

Ticket prices vary depending on which experience you choose.

For 2026, booking information currently lists:

Full Elf Town Experience: from approximately €30 per child

Express Elf Town Experience: from approximately €20 per child

Adult and family prices vary by experience and date. Prices can also change depending on availability and the particular date you choose, so always check the official booking page before purchasing.

Is Elf Town Galway Worth the Money?

This really depends on what you're looking for.

If you simply want your child to meet Santa for five minutes and take a photograph, there are cheaper Santa visits available. Elf Town is aimed at families looking for something much bigger — an immersive Christmas experience lasting considerably longer than a traditional grotto, with characters, themed rooms, activities and entertainment built around the Santa visit.

The addition of the cheaper Express option in 2026 also gives families more choice depending on budget and how much of the experience they want.

Make a Christmas Day of It in Galway

One of the biggest advantages of Elf Town's location is that you can easily combine it with other Christmas activities in Galway.

If you're travelling from outside the city, we'd make a full day of it. Visit Elf Town before heading into Galway City to explore the Galway Christmas Market at Eyre Square — Christmas chalets, festive food, the Big Wheel, carousel, Christmas gifts, hot chocolate and seasonal entertainment. Add the Christmas lights around Shop Street and the Latin Quarter and you've got the makings of a brilliant festive family day.

Turn It Into a Christmas Weekend

If you're travelling from further away, Elf Town can also be a great excuse for a Christmas break in Galway.

Stay overnight and you could combine Elf Town and the Galway Christmas Market on day one, then spend day two exploring Salthill Promenade, Galway City Museum, Spanish Arch and Christmas shopping in the Latin Quarter. It turns the Santa visit into something much more memorable than simply driving there and home again.

Booking Elf Town Galway 2026

Advance booking is strongly recommended.

Elf Town is one of Galway's most popular family Christmas experiences and some weekend time slots can sell out. If you've got a particular December weekend in mind, book sooner rather than later — dates closer to Christmas are likely to be especially popular.

When you do book, arrive at least 10–15 minutes before your allocated time to allow for parking, check-in and getting everyone ready. Anyone who has tried getting excited children out of a car in December while locating missing hats will understand why.
